Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman

Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS, N.I., H.I., S.I., T.I. is a leading scientist and scholar from Pakistan, especially renowned for his research in the various areas relating to natural product chemistry. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman has over 1000 publications in several fields including 724 research publications, 37 international patents, 173 books and 68 chapters in books published largely by major U.S. and European presses.
Prof. Rahman was elected Fellow of Royal Society (London)(2006) and won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999). He was conferred honorary doctorate degrees by many universities including Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) by Cambridge University (UK) (1987). He was elected Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University (2007). Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was conferred TWAS Prize for Institution Building (2009) and the Austrian government conferred its highest civil award (“Grosse Goldene Ehrenzeischen am Bande") (2007). Prof. Rahman won the highest National Award of China (“Friendship Award”) (2014). He is the President of Network of Academies of Science in Countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (NASIC). Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was Federal Minister for Science and Technology (2000-2002), Federal Minister of Education (2002) and Chairman Higher Education Commission/FederalMinister ( 2002-2008).
He is the most decorated scientist of Pakistan, having been awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz , Hilal-i-Imtiaz , and the highest national civil award Nishan-i-Imtiaz (2002). Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman is Editor-in-Chief of 8 European chemistry journals and Founding Editor of "Studies in Natural Product Chemistry" (Elsevier) -- 48 volumes have been published. Presently he is Professor Emeritus and HEC Distinguished National Professor at International Center for Chemical & Biological Sciences University of Karachi, Pakistan."
